Relief from the Devastation of Lead Poisoning You may be aware of some of the hazards of lead poisoning, but did you know that lead is the NUMBER ONE environmental threat to young children? By 1978 in the United States, 13.5 million were diagnosed with elevated blood levels of lead, defined as 10mg/dl or more (micrograms per deciliter). In 2002 that number decreased to 310,000, and it may have dropped to an estimated 240,000 by now. However, that is still a large number of children with high levels of lead poisoning, not to mention those children and adults who suffer from mild to moderate damage. |
The threat of lead poisoning became all too real for one adoptive parent, Imam Haleem Abdul-Rahman. His family endured a rude awakening to the reality of lead poisoning in their young adopted daughter, Precious, who exhibited symptoms of lack of concentration, aggressive behavior, and poor school performance. He knew that she could do much better, and got her tested for lead poisoning. She was found to have a level of 18 mg/dl, almost twice the threshold for elevated blood levels! He knew he had to do something to help her. As they say, necessity is the mother of invention, and soon after that, he collaborated with Saleem Hasan, a health enthusiast and owner of Naturally Yours, LLC, and they started designing the Natural Recovery line of products, including a two-part lead cleansing program, Lead Detox and Brilliance. They are designed to remove lead and other toxins and repair damage to the body, including the brain. Lead Detox includes powerful detoxifyng agents that break down the lead into fine particles and remove it from the body. Brilliance is a potent formula which repairs damage caused by the lead by sending antioxidant-enriched blood to the brain and throughout the body. Imam Haleem was aware of the devastating effect that lead poisoning has on children because of his years as a mentor in the Baltimore City Public School System. But when Precious became a member of his family, he noted, “Her behavior was so disturbing that I couldn’t sleep, because I didn’t know what she was going to do when she got up at night. She would go to the bathroom, ransack the medicine cabinet, and destroy things. One day I found her with my razor. She would take crayons or markers and write all over the walls from the top of the house to the basement, not intentionally, but her mind was not functioning right. We couldn’t keep a babysitter because of these behaviors. We had to have compassion and realize what she was going through.” Her school performance suffered as well. He remembered that she couldn’t stay in the classroom, and was being put out of the class practically every other day to go to the principal’s office. She failed Kindergarten because she was never in class. But after giving her the nutritional supplements, as well as tutoring, bolstering of her self-confidence, and showing her compassion, she went from complete failure to being on the honor roll. Then he knew she had to capacity to receive the education she needed. |
Details of the Natural Recovery line of products are available at www.naturallyyoursmd.com. It is amazing how the human brain and body can respond to herbs, supplements, and other treatment, of course coupled with a living environment free of contaminants. In addition, Imam Haleem and Saleem intend to engage in further research on remedies for lead poisoning. They believe that we all must help combat this condition, and they are doing everything that they can to introduce these products. The idea is to have a positive impact to reverse the damage to nerves and muscles, as well as damage to kidneys, liver, and blood vessels. On several radio shows on WEAA (88.9 FM) Morgan State University Radio Station in Baltimore, they have discussed the dilemma of lead poisoning in our community: on November 26, 2006 on “Dialogue with the African-American Male” show with Imam Earl El-Amin, and on March 22 of this year on “Optimal Health” show with Dr. Eleanor Hixon, who endorses the products. You might ask, “What are the implications for our youth’s success or failure?” Quick action and a little know-how can certainly reduce the damage of lead poison dramatically. But, are you aware of how the system is planning for our young people’s failure in school and life, based on their exposure to lead and their lackluster school performance as a result of it? Lead exposure is one of the most accurate predictors of juvenile delinquency, detention, and serving prison time in our criminal justice system. Imam Haleem and Saleem want to continue raising awareness of lead poisoning, and are available for booking to speak on the issue. They are also joining forces with United Parents Against Lead (UPAL), a national lead poisoning advocacy organization headquartered in Richmond, Virginia, to eradicate lead poisoning as a threat to our children’s health, and to fight against the further spread of this condition. Queen Zakia Shabazz, Executive Director of UPAL has written a touching memoir of her son, Zaki’s personal story in her book, “A Child is a Terrible Thing to Waste.” |
We need to bear in mind that lead is an extremely potent poison, and when swallowed or inhaled, it can build up slowly and remain in the body for many years, causing severe health problems. Even when the exposure to lead is only slight or moderate, there are lasting effects of lead poisoning that are difficult to overcome, such as damage to the brain, hearing, nervous system, and reproductive system. In addition, lead poisoning has been linked to hyperactivity, inability to understand and comprehend in school, reduced cognition, and hypertension in adults. Indeed, advanced levels of lead poisoning can cause seizures, coma, and even death. It is projected that the Natural Recovery products, Lead Detox and Brilliance, will help tremendously for those diagnosed with lead poisoning, as it already has since its inception. It can also be used as a detoxifier for general purification of the body from other metals such as Mercury, and contaminants. |

There are many sources, but the primary cause of lead poisoning is from old layers of lead-based paint that peel off and end up in your child’s mouth. Homes built before 1978 are highly likely to have lead-based paint. Even when repainted, the lead-based paint underneath can still be a hazard. In order to protect your family from further damage, Imam Haleem suggests getting blood lead screening for children between the ages of six months to one year, and again at age 2. One in 20 preschoolers have high levels of lead, and children under 6 who have never been tested should have a blood lead test as soon as possible, as well as pregnant women. It is also evident that lead poisoning has a disproportionately adverse effect on low-income families, but it tends to impact many populations regardless of socioeconomic level, race, or geographic location. This is an all-pervasive, national and international problem that manifests itself in a pervasive manner in inner cities, suburbs, as well as in rural areas. Imam Haleem and Saleem intend to be a part of the solution, and through their products, help prevent lead poisoning from robbing our youth of reaching their full potential. Because our children deserve a better chance at life, they will continue to raise awareness. And have We not raised thee high in dignity? And, behold, with every hardship comes ease; verily, with every hardship comes ease! Hence, when thou art freed (from distress), remain steadfast, and unto thy Sustainer turn with love.” Surah 94, Al-Inshirah, The Expansion. |
